Issue #0 Incredibly rad D&D and TTRPG miscellany incoming.
Think of this as a very cool tabletop zine. Please.
Welcome to Unplaytested by me, Jess Pendley. I'm a ttrpg writer and designer with a strong focus on 5e D&D, but I'm mostly one half of the best selling small press, Underground Oracle Publishing.
I spend the majority of my time with my partner in life/creativity/publishing—Keith Pendley—conceptualizing, creating, and playtesting materials for our 3rd party publishing venture. But we’re both pretty prone to flights of fancy that fall outside of our own currently established canon or aren’t quite ready to move into their own supplements. Previously, these materials would remain in the dusty annals of our drive file, waiting for the right moment to be unveiled to our Patrons or entered “officially” into one of our little paracosms. Sometimes, these ideas are too outlandish to even leave the confines of our own games. Those dark days are now sort of at an end.
In this newsletter, I’ll present new player and gm options that you can use in any way you see fit. Some will be system agnostic, most will probably be 5th edition-specific. Some will be materials that will eventually make their way into official Underground Oracle supplements in one form or another, a lot will be one-off ideas and concepts that may never see the light of day outside of this publication. It should all be both awesome and cool.
I also plan to highlight things that inspire me—comics, books, music—as well as some of the projects and art that other folks in the D&D/TTRPG community are producing. We have a lot of very cool and talented friends, so I doubt there will ever be any shortage of material there. And of course, there will be news of upcoming Underground Oracle releases, promotions, and discounts—because a lady has to eat and wants to do so solely on the back of her supplements one day.
That’s the whole delicious enchilada. Stay tuned for what I hope will be a very rad addition to both of our lives, our games, or a the very least, to your inbox.
